PDF Analytics gives you a unique shareable link for each PDF you upload. When someone opens the link, we record the event server-side โ capturing the browser, device, operating system, and time โ with zero impact on the reader's experience.

What We Track
Every time your tracked PDF is opened, we capture the following data points:
- Open Events โ Total number of times the PDF was opened and unique viewer count based on IP addresses.
- Device Type โ Whether the document was opened on desktop, mobile, or tablet.
- Browser / PDF Viewer โ Which software was used to open the PDF โ Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.
- Operating System โ Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and Chrome OS detection.
- Timestamp & Timeline โ Exact date and time of every open event, displayed on an interactive 30-day chart.
How It Works Under the Hood
We use two tracking methods for maximum compatibility. The primary method is a shareable view link โ when someone opens the link in any browser, we record the event server-side before displaying the PDF. This works in every browser and device.
As a secondary method, we also inject lightweight JavaScript tracking into the downloadable PDF file. When opened in Adobe Acrobat/Reader, a tiny request is sent back to our servers. This method only works in Adobe products, but the view link works everywhere.
Step-by-step process:

- 3 When anyone opens the link, we record the open event server-side โ browser, device, OS, and time.
- 4 The PDF is displayed inline in their browser with a clean viewer. On mobile, they can download it.
- 5 Additionally, we inject JavaScript tracking into the downloadable PDF for Adobe Acrobat/Reader users.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does tracking change how my PDF looks?
No. Your PDF remains visually identical. The shareable view link simply displays your PDF in a clean viewer page, and the embedded tracking in the downloaded file is completely invisible.
Will readers see a popup or notification?
No. When someone opens the view link, they see your PDF displayed in a clean, branded viewer. It looks professional and there are no tracking notifications. If they open the downloaded PDF in Adobe Acrobat, the tracking is also completely silent.
What if someone opens the PDF offline?
If the downloaded PDF is opened offline, the embedded pixel tracking cannot fire. However, opens via the shareable view link are always tracked because they require a browser and internet connection.
Is there a file size limit?
You can upload PDFs up to 50MB. The tracked version will be approximately the same file size as the original.
Can I track the same PDF with different recipients?
Currently, each upload creates one tracking ID and one shareable view link. All opens are recorded to the same dashboard. For per-recipient tracking, upload the same PDF multiple times โ each will get a unique view link and separate analytics.
